Humor
President Fred Timmons shared this:

God is Busy....
A United States Marine was taking some college courses between assignments. He had completed 20 missions in Iraq and Afghanistan. One of the courses had a professor who was an avowed atheist.
One day the professor shocked the class when he came in.  He looked to the ceiling and flatly stated, "God, if you are real, then I want you to knock me off this platform..I'll give you exactly 15 min." The lecture room fell silent. You could hear a pin drop. Ten minutes went by and the professor proclaimed, "Here I am God, I'm still waiting."
It got down to the last couple of minutes when the Marine got out of his chair, went up to the professor, and cold-cocked him; knocking him off the platform. The professor was out cold. The Marine went back to his seat and sat there, silently. The other students were shocked and stunned, and sat there looking on in silence.
The professor eventually came to, noticeably shaken, looked at the Marine and asked, "What in the world is the matter with you?  Why did you do that?"
The Marine calmly replied, "God was busy today protecting America's soldiers who are protecting your right to say stupid stuff and act like an idiot. So He sent me."
The classroom erupted into cheers!

Welcome Guest! We were honored to have as our guest this week Assistant District Governor, Dr. Jackie Parsons.

Rotarian Magazine Minute
Bruce shared with us an article he found very interesting in the December issue of the Rotarian called, "Constructive Engagement".  A member of the Rotary Club of Chandler-Horizon in Arizona heard about the wreckage caused by Hurricane Harvey and decided to do something about it. Woodlands Rotarians and their friends decided to jump onboard and also pitched in to help - together the two Rotary Clubs formed a team for this project. They heard about Terrie Stelter, a vet who had volunteered after Hurricane Katrina. Stelter is a full time caregiver to her mother, her sister who has MS and her 5 year old daughter. Terrie's house suffered damage due to Harvey's path of destruction. The Rotary team raised $43,000 to help rebuild her home. Further, for those unable to donate their time and manpower, the Rotary team set up a registry at Bed Bath & Beyond so they could give that way instead.

Our own Bruce Richter pointed out that our Club so far has donated $5,000 to 3 separate districts for disaster relief. This year the Oak Hills Rotary Club Board is reaching out to 3 districts offering to help, especially Texas coast city of Rockport which was hard hit.

As a side note, Bil Trodler offered that Keller Williams Realty also reaches out to those who have faced devastating loss by providing millions of dollars to help rebuild communities. Also, individuals work countless hours to provide immediate relief by delivering essentials to those whose communities were wiped out due to natural disasters.

2019 Rotary Convention in Hamburg Germany Ken Donoughue reminded us that anyone planning to attend the Convention should jump in and register now. Early registration ends Dec 15 so take advantage now of the reduced registration fee of $375. Click on the link below to register!
Club Lunch and Business Program
Our speaker today was Dewayne Hopkins, Ret. AF, Executive Director of The Fisher House located at Lackland AFB. Dewayne shared that he has been to 52 countries in his 30 years of military service. His was the first unit to go to Afghanistan. Currently his passion is The Fisher House, a "home away from home" for all branches of the military and their family members (serving those such as active military, retirees, families, wounded warriors) who are hospitalized or receiving treatment at a military medical facility in San Antonio. The Fisher House is a 501(c)3 non profit organization and provides support to service members and their families at no cost. Dewayne best described it as similar to the Ronald McDonald House. He invites us to get involved. The Fisher Houses are funded entirely by the support of generous donors. Gifts of time, service or donations allow to the organization to help support military families in their time of need.

Brags and Confessions

Brett Ward announced that the 2019 San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo will run from Feb 7th to the 14th. Brett is part of the 120 member International Committee which he joined in 2011. Brett has been Chairman of the Tours Committee since 2013.  The committee provides  excellent accommodations to help international visitors feel comfortable and welcome while visiting the Rodeo. The committee provides tours of the grounds and exhibits and provides lunch for the international visitors. Pictured here is the International Group sponsored by District 5840 at last year's Rodeo. Brett says that he is on the grounds every day except for 2 days during the entire run of the Rodeo!...He invited all who are interested in volunteering with the Stock Show and Rodeo to register online.  The link is below!
Ken Donoghue bragged that he enjoyed Thanksgiving with his children and their families that included 6 grandchildren. He enjoyed watching a nail biter of a game between Woodlands vs Cedar Ridge.

President Fred Timmons shared that he enjoyed Thanksgiving visiting with his sister and brother-in-law who were staying at the J.W. Marriott.

Assistant District Governor Dr. Jackie Parsons shared that she is grateful for Oak Hills Rotary Club! We're very grateful for you as well, Jackie! Your cheerful smile always brightens up our meeting.

Show Low Raffle
Assistant District Governor Dr. Jackie Parsons won the opportunity to draw for the 2 of Clubs and win the $725 pot for today. Unfortunately, she drew the 7 of Diamonds but did not go home unrewarded.  She took home a bottle of red wine as a consolation prize. The pot will increase by $25 next week.

Wine Drawing
Jackie Parsons also held the ticket to win a bottle of white wine. (We suspect that her chances at winning increased dramatically when she decided to purchase 10 tickets today!)

James Daniel donated the wine for November. Thanks James!!!!!

The Meeting was closed with the Four-Way Test, led by Ken Donoughue
