Bulletin for Jan 8 2020
Prayer, Pledge and Visitors
After a long break for the winter holiday, President Rick Tarbell opened the first meeting for 2020 with the ringing of the bell.  Ken Donoughue provided the prayer and led the pledges.  Vice President John Legris introduced our guest Margie Dudley a guest of Treasurer Stuart Dudley.  Margie shared that she is moving from Colorado to San Antonio. Our speaker today is President Rick Tarbell.

President Rick provided the club announcements:
  • District 5840 Cruise Raffle Tickets are now available! Club members who sell the winning ticket also win a cruise!
  • Jan 10th Coffee Friday at Einstein Bagels on DeZavala Rd. 8:00 a.m.
  • Jan 16th Thursday - Happy Hour at Luce Ristorante e Enoteca. Click HERE to learn more about their drink specials and happy hour menu!
**Disclaimer:  Happy Hours are usually the third Thursday of the month and Coffee Fridays are usually the second Friday of the month. Editor says she claims no responsibility for posting the wrong day/date at any given time because, well, just because.**

Past President Fred Timmons shared his weekly wit with us.
"Puns for Educated Minds"
  • The fattest knight at King Arthur's round table was Sir Cumference. He acquired his size from too much pi.
  • I thought I saw an eye doctor on an Alaskan island, but it turned out to be an optical Aleutian.
  • She was only a whiskey maker, but he loved her still.
  • A rubber band pistol was confiscated from algebra class, because it was a weapon of math disruption.
  • No matter how much you push the envelope, it'll still be stationery.
  • A dog gave birth to puppies near the road and was cited for littering.
  • A grenade thrown into a kitchen in France would result in Linoleum Blownapart.

"Pass the Hat" proceeds for this month will go to Elf Louise

President Rick challenged us with "Who have you invited to Rotary?"

President Rick announced the National Days and This Day in History.

Vice President John Legris introduced our speaker:  President Rick Tarbell. His presentation was about the 2020 Financial Outlook. The economy seems to be doing OK. There is moderate growth for the USA. Consumer spending is good, this keeps the economy going. "A little bit of inflation is good," according to Rick. Wages have picked up a little bit. The outlook is decent because earnings are going up and stocks are predicted to do OK this year.  For more information you may contact President Rick: 210-722-8121.

Thank you Rick for speaking to our club today!

As is our custom, a book will be donated in Rick's honor to the Locke Hill Elementary School Library.

Thank you Fred Timmons for your book donation.

Next week our speaker will be Dr. Garza from Mexico.

Ken Ruiz wished us all a Happy New Year!  Ken was designated auctioneer for the umbrella. Past President Fred Timmons won and will own the umbrella this month. His winning bid goes toward his Paul Harris Fellowship.

    Fines and Confessions
Ken Ruiz confessed he was missing his Rotary pin.
Joe Montagna took a trip to visit his daughter who made him a grandpa again!

    Show Low Drawing
Our fearless Vice President John Legris said that he was informed that his designation of sommelier may not be official since he is not certified. With that in mind he will carry on in an unofficial capacity.  He is the closest thing that we have and we appreciate his knowledge! Today's wine selections are both from the Becker vineyards.

The "Show-Low" pot this week was $1,175.  Past President Fred Timmons won the right to select the two of clubs out of the dwindling deck of only THREE CARDS. Unfortunately he drew the ace of clubs - he took home a bottle of white wine.  Bil Trodlier owned the second ticket drawn and took home the red wine.

Since there have been no winners so far the pot increases by $25 and will be $1.200 next time! Also there are only TWO cards left in the deck!

We recommend that everyone come to the meeting next week and buy all the tickets you possibly can!

Thank you Bruce Richter for contributing wine for the month of January.

    Congratulations!
Our own Destiny Mujica and Jon Rhoads welcomed baby daughter Joslyn Jessie Rhoads on December 23.  When Destiny first announced her pregnancy, she said that she was expecting a "baby Rotarian!" We are so happy for you two and can't wait to meet little Joslyn!
